Happy Holidays

Greetings!

When we begin the 2009 session of the General Assembly on January 7th, I will be the next Majority Leader of the senate.  Ken Gordon served as the Majority Leader for the past four years and has been a good friend and mentor.  He’s term-limited and won’t be able to return, so the torch has been passed.  He’s left huge shoes to fill by emphasizing bipartisanship and integrity in the legislative process.  I will do my best to uphold the standards he’s set.

I look forward to working with a great leadership team in the senate.  President Groff, Minority Leader Penry and I will work together to craft our agenda.  Economic development is on our minds and will undoubtedly dominate our discussions.  We’re working on a robust jobs and transportation infrastructure package.  The details are still being ironed out, but all ideas are on the table.  It’s been a pleasure working with Sen. Penry.  He’s smart and has a good sense of humor.

As we head into the next session, I’ll try to continue Ken’s tradition of sending out newsletters to update folks on the status of our work under the golden dome.  My plan is to send out a newsletter every week or two during the session … we’ll see if I can stick to the plan.  Please help me broaden the circulation of my newsletter by forwarding this to friends who you think may be interested.  You can sign up for the newsletter by clicking here, or visiting my website at www.brandonshaffer.com.

I also plan to maintain a blog.  I’m still working the bugs out of this, but will announce it as soon as it’s up and running.

I’d like to wish you all a happy and safe holiday season.  There will be many challenges in the coming year, but there will also be great opportunities.

Feel free to contact me if you have any questions or comments.  My email address is listed below.

Yours truly,

Brandon
